It has always been difficult to delay immediate gratification in order to receive either a prize or a larger benefit as the result of this effort. Saving for retirement is difficult and falls under this description; we save today in order to spend tomorrow. But it is many times more difficult to delay gratification if the future benefit can not be clearly visualized. This is one of the reasons behind the difficulty that many Hispanics have in preparing for retirement.

We observe the disparity in the financial outcomes of many Hispanics, and believe this is a segment which is grossly underserved by mainstream financial institutions.

Survey: Retirement Expectations of Mexican Immigrants to the U.S.

Hispanics living in the United States are a mosaic of various nationalities, cultures, circumstances, acculturation levels, race, gender, language, faith and socioeconomic characteristics.

  • A key factor in understanding Hispanic segments is to consider how long Latinos and their families have been living in the United States.
  • Most of the time a one-size-fits-all approach to solving a problem in the Hispanic community, just doesn’t work.

In order to appropriately meet the retirement needs of this diverse ethnic group, it is necessary to question and fully comprehend their expectations.

Our research aims to understand how culture affects their actions towards retirement. In 2013 we started with surveying the Retirement Expectations of Mexican Immigrants in the United States, and now we have repeated and expanded the survey in 2016, in order to be able to compare our findings.
